LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz held a meeting with Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik to review the fuel supply situation and assess the potential impact of the ongoing regional conflict on petroleum availability in the province.
During the meeting, participants examined the supply, demand and existing reserves of petroleum products in Punjab. They also discussed measures aimed at maintaining a balance between fuel demand and supply in view of the evolving global energy situation.
The participants agreed to adopt a fuel conservation policy to ensure stability in the availability of petroleum products and to manage consumption effectively during the current crisis.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stressed the importance of ensuring uninterrupted diesel supply for the agricultural sector, highlighting its critical role in sustaining farming activities across the province.
She directed district administrations to continuously monitor the supply of petroleum products and ordered a strict crackdown against hoarding and illegal stockpiling. The chief minister also instructed the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA) and the provincial Transport Department to closely monitor the situation and take action wherever necessary.
Maryam Nawaz further directed authorities to ensure that citizens do not have to face long queues at petrol pumps and warned that no petrol station would be allowed to sell fuel above the officially notified prices anywhere in the province.
She urged the nation to demonstrate resilience and unity in dealing with the emerging challenges, noting that timely decisions and coordinated action were essential to safeguard economic stability.
Officials present at the meeting also briefed the participants on the current reserves of petrol, diesel, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and other fuels, stressing the need for immediate measures to conserve energy and promote responsible fuel consumption in light of the global crisis.
